2021 RGV Energy Efficient Builders
Energy Efficient Builders
This issue of the New Home Guide features an elite group of home builders who have stepped up to a leadership role in the construction of high-performance, energy efficient homes in the Rio Grande Valley. While many builders only comply with the bare minimum building code requirements, the builders presented here go above and beyond those requirements to ensure their homes are superior in quality, comfort, and energy savings. They are not obligated to do this for you, but they do. And it says a lot about them and their company. They are all members of the BUILT TO SAVE® program.

While most builders are focused on cutting costs to be more competitive, a BUILT TO SAVE® builder member is focused on cutting homeownership cost—what the home will cost you during the time you own it. They know that buying a home is typically the largest investment anyone will make in their lifetime. It’s an investment that homebuyers make with hope of being able to enjoy the home while they live in it, and with the expectation that their investment will pay off in the future if they decide to sell. It is a well-known fact, from national surveys, that homes certified as energy efficient command a higher market value. And it makes perfect sense that a home would. Because when you compare someone’s word that the home is energy efficient to actual documentation, inspections, and testing from a licensed energy rater and a BUILT TO SAVE® certificate as proof that it is, the reason is obvious.
If you are shopping for a home, don’t get blinded by its beauty and the luxurious details. Ask about its performance, its expected energy usage, and whether or not it was certified in a high-performance home program like BUILT TO SAVE® or ENERGY STAR®. That’s the best way to ensure that you will be comfortable and happy in your new home.
